Continuing Research
I’m starting to write my section on what is sustainable travel, and why.
I think researching is just another form of travel. It’s hyper-space travel and it is very easy to take a wrong turn or become lost entirely. If you are researching a topic that is already hard to find, your journey could become a major headache quickly.
Here are a few tips to help ease the pain:
1. Search for specific phrases by adding “”s. Search items will appear exactly as you quoted them.
Example: ”John Doe”
2. Exclude words from your search. If you know certain subjects or words won’t apply to your search then cut them out! You can do this by adding a (-) symbol to your search.
Example: The ocean -coral reefs
3. If you know exactly what website you’re looking for but can’t find the information you need, site the specific source. You can enter in quotes the phrase you are looking for AND include the site’s URL in your search engine.
Example: “Apples” www.happyfriendlyfarms.org
4. Add words to your search with a (+) symbol. The (+) symbol in search engines is my most used tool. It’s useful if you are looking for certain information PLUS anything else pertaining to a related topic.
Example: Sustainability +travel
During my search on sustainable travel I found a couple helpful websites. My favorite is http://planetgreen.discovery.com/travel-outdoors/top-eco-tourism-spots-in-the-world.html because it gives examples of sustainable, global destinations. Check it out to learn more.
